Overview
Under ACIED Africa’s T-CORE flagship initiative, the organization has been implementing the Agriculture Livelihood Enhancement Project in Nigeria. The overall objective is to promote a sustainable and inclusive agri-food system that:

  • Increases productivity and revenue for smallholder women and youth entrepreneurs in agribusiness through innovative technology;
  • Enhances community resilience;
  • Boosts employment; and
  • Contributes to improved food security and healthy diets.

Project Achievements and Targets
The project has delivered on its targets by economically empowering:

  • 250 women and youth fish retailers and processors
  • 320 crop farmers

This progress is achieved through seven outcomes and five activity work plans, which focus on enhancing the capacities of women and youth beneficiaries in the following key areas:

  1. Social Capital

    • Strengthening group membership, legitimacy, bargaining power, cooperative governance and leadership, and market linkages.
  2. Physical Resources

    • Establishing women-led fish processing and distribution centres.
  3. Financial Resources

    • Supporting village savings and loan associations and facilitating access to formal credit markets.
  4. Human Resources

    • Providing technical training on fish processing and value addition skills/techniques, business development, conflict resolution, and digital technology–driven market and product certification.
  5. Business Innovation

    • Establishing new product lines and sustainable business models.
